About Us E-mail

Approximately 25 years ago ago, two young boys were sent to Europe for schooling. On completion of their Schooling they went onto Further Education, and then, to gain work experience started their working lives in Europe.

Life went on, as did the years, and from boys they became young men, they married, got kids, bought their homes and started businesses and like many thousands of others started to build new lives in a foreign land.

But they never forgot the land of their fathers, visiting irregularly and always wanting to be part of the development of the country they had left all those years ago.
All this time their lives were in parallel, they had never met, lived 200 miles apart and through a mutual contact they were introduced in 2005.

On meeting they got on well, and became friends. They discussed and analysed their respective businesses and how they wanted to invest in the Social Development in regions of the world where there was poverty, deprivation and corporate exploitation.

At that time, between them they were sponsoring several individuals through University and sponsoring a Medical Charity, and had seen first hand how large companies exploited the People being supported in the Countries where they were giving support.

Both men wanted more than this, wanting to make a major difference in the lives of as many people as they could reach, Educationally, Socially, Emotionally and Economically. And so after many meetings, months of full time research, much traveling and hours of phone calls, in 2007, WetinBe was born…

What is WetinBe?
WetinBe is a Community based Business that offers Internet and Data services in areas that networks or Governments do not currently reach. It has a very strong Community bias.

What is the WetinBe Philosophy?
To expand the Internet using WetinBe Community Links throughout regions where there is no telecom access, in any country on earth.
WetinBe Links are Communities where Internet access is available for a very small fee, part of which is used to pay for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility and a proportion of profits used to develop Social Projects in the Community.

Is WetinBe a Commercial Business or a Charity?
WetinBe is a Commercial Business with strong Environmental and Social ethics of fairness and honesty. WetinBe views the measured improvements to the Social and Economic Development of its users as its main benchmark to success.

Does WetinBe offer Grants?
Yes! Commercial sales made by WetinBe subsidise the installation of equipment into Communities to ensure that Internet services are rolled out over as great a reach as possible.
Grants offered by WetinBe are up to 50% of the installation cost of the equipment. Some Communities can get additional grant assistance from Educational and Religious Charities to subsidise the balance.
To give a sense of Value to the Community, WetinBe insists that a part of the Cost is borne by the Community. Fund raising within the Community usually raises this.

What Countries does WetinBe work in?
WetinBe currently operates in the Europe and West Africa. Its main interest is the development of Internet services in developing countries, but WetinBe will work in any country where there is a demand for services.
WetinBe equipment is working successfully in Nigeria, UK, Germany and Ghana. There are several Commercial and Community applications from Cameroon, Senegal, Togo and The Gambia coming online soon.

How does WetinBe make money?
First of all WetinBe is an organisation that requires much lower overheads than other organisations. The Company philosophy is to plough the majority of profits back into Communities to encourage, and develop education, economic independence, and social development.
WetinBe does not have to answer to shareholders wanting the largest return on their investment, and so can keep its prices and overheads low.
That said, WetinBe sells products and Internet use time commercially as well as offering a range of free services to Community Organisations, particularly schools.
WetinBe sponsors the Gist!! Messaging service for users so that they can at keep in contact with friends and family in economically disadvantaged areas.

Why the Name WetinBe?
WetinBe means, “What is?” It is a term used frequently in English speaking West Africa. The single question that occupied our minds when we wanted to invest in the Social Development in regions of the world where there was poverty, deprivation and corporate exploitation was…What is the best way we can empower Communities?
Once that was answered other “What is” questions sprang from this like, “What is the best way to invest in education”, “What is the best way to economically advantage local farmers” and hundreds of others.
And so, when we had the answers to all the questions, the name WetinBe was born.

What Countries will WetinBe work in?
WetinBe will assist in setting up Internet services in any country in the world, where there are problems accessing normal Internet services.

Does WetinBe recycle?
Yes of course. We accept used laptops, which we refurbish and send out to our Social Access Links in schools in developing countries. So if you have an unwanted laptop, please contact us on the ‘Contacts’ page and we will send you our address local to you for you to send it on to us.
If you want to keep in contact with the end user of the laptop and receive updates of what it is used for then of course we would be more than glad to arrange for that.
We are sorry, but due to power supply issues we cannot accept desktops, as all our equipment is has to be solar powered and run off 12 volts.
